Summer Runs

Look out for our Summer Runs in 2014. Details in regard to meeting arrangements will be circulated nearer the time.

Cumberland AC – Handicap Series 2013

The main objective here is to offer a fun-to-run and accessible competition to our members that jointly spices up quiet racing months, and contributes towards maintaining, or developing, sharpness. The following dates have been selected to avoid the races in our championship and the summer run excursions. However, these dates are subject to change to account for clashing with popular local races and enable some flexibility on the winter handicap where icy roads may prove risky. It is my intention to ensure changes, if any are needed, are made in timely fashion, and notification will be given on Tuesday club nights and via our website.

This series will the first to be run using a baseline handicap, following the recent trial run, and the detail from our pilot series last year. It is, therefore, no secret that we use this series to warmly welcome the participants of the ‘learn to run’ course into the family of runners at our club who can expect to enjoy a healthy bias in their favour.

I look forward to seeing you – Happy Running

  1. 1. Spring-Loaded or Sprung! - Tuesday 16th April

Daffodil heaven in and around Hall Park with the aim of keeping the terrain friendly but fast (results and evaluation).
  2. 2. Summer Sunshine Slopes - Tuesday 16th July

Our favourite jaunt up ‘Workington Fell’ (aka the slag bank); and maybe some evening sunshine to match the colour of our faces (results and evaluation).
  3. 3. Autumn Almost Done - Tuesday 15th October

Autumn Glory (for the leaders perhaps) around Lillyhall business park (results and evaluation).
  4. 4. Winter Woollies R4 Whusses - Tuesday 17th December

Completing a Quintuplet of W’s, our final run will probably be based around the final part of our Workington Winter circuit; to close the circle on a successful year (results and evaluation).
