Learn To Run

This course is currently full, but please contact Susan for when places may be available.

Have you ever wondered how people run continuously for over 30 minutes or even for an hour or more? Each year Cumberland AC offers everybody the opportunity to Learn to Run for Free on its Learn to Run scheme. This beginners’ course set over 7 weeks teaches everybody who takes part how to run and takes place every January from Workington Leisure Centre.

The course is led by Susan Denham-Smith from Ennerdale who is a qualified UK Athletics run leader and member of Cumberland AC. Susan learnt to run 15 years ago in order to get fit and run The Race for Life in her then home-town of Peterborough. Since then she has gone on to run across the 4 countries of British Isles and won an English medal for 24hr track running, as well as taking part in many local and national road races. As Susan says, “having started with the very same programme I will be teaching I know from experience not only that it is possible to learn to run, but also how difficult it can be. Together with other members of the Cumberland Running club we will support all new runners every step of the way”.

Have no fear if you have missed this year’s group Learn to Run training, just contact Susan on 01946 861270 or at . to find out about how we can help you with your individual learn to run goal.

After the 7 week Learn to Run course new runners can then join Cumberland AC’s Intermediate running group which leaves from Workington Leisure Centre at 6:30pm every Tuesday. The runs follow 4 different routes each month covering 3-4 miles and are open to anybody able to run for 30-40 minutes.
