Information for new or prospective members

Who?

  • Cumberland AC welcome runners to their Tuesday night training run, but advise that you should be able to comfortably run 7 miles. This session is NOT suitable for absolute beginners.

  • Please contact Club members, coaches, or officials for advice; members run others sessions themselves, which may be more suitable runners just starting out.

  • Unfortunately we don't cater for Juniors.

Training

  •   Summer club runs – pre-planned excursions into the country once a month (approx.), during the summer months with opportunity to meet at a local pub afterwards.

  •   Tuesday night club run – 6.30pm start every week! During winter from Oval Centre, Salterbeck, Workington. Approx 7.5 miles.

  •   Structured coaching sessions – Thursday evenings with qualified coaches:  Keith and Sheila McVeigh.

Events

  •   Malcolm McDougal Memorial Netherhall 10 mile road race every last Sunday in February with free after race food.

  •   Cumberland AC summer 10K road race –  event on cycleway from Moorclose with free after-race buffet.

  •   Boxing Day road run – Annual 5K

Trips

  •   Annual trip to the London marathon – usually Friday to Sunday.

  •   Annual trip to a Half Marathon – Subsidised bus!

  •   Regular planned trips to other high profile events – eg Great North Run, Ballycotton 10 etc.

Competitions

  •   Mens/Womens club championship – Each season

  •   Integral age-related competition - lets the veterans compete and excludes the young!

  •   Handicap race series – Race series of 4/5 varying short course events, for club members only, on pre-planned Tuesday nights.

Social events

  •   Annual Presentation evening – usually in January of each year prior to the new season commencing.

  •   Annual General Meeting – 3rd Tuesday in January

  •   Monthly Meeting – 3rd Tuesday every month

  •   End of year Pea and Pie supper, quiz, and final meeting – a very popular get-together after the club run on the 3rd Tuesday in December.

What else?

  •   Publication of a regular newsletter

  •   Year round contact with like-minded folk

  •   Don’t forget! – If you normally compete in 10 races in the season, the subsidy given to all club affiliated runners will result in a saving of £10 (or the cost of your membership).

  •   All new ideas for the enjoyment of club members welcome – bring them to meeting nights
